Finding a Shared Vision

Before leaving today for the Renewable Energy Fair, Tomoko and I had an interesting conversation about the transition stage that we are going through in our minds and also physically since we moved out of the city and into the country. It is certainly not something to be underestimated or thought to be simply a romantic pursuit.

One of the things we have identified is that we have certain almost oppostite polar differences in some of the ways which we are wanting to embrace this more natural, slower and considered way of moving through life. As per our signs, I am Fire and Tomoko is Water..... and in our life, this seems to match out personalities. I move quickly through things ferociously taking everything in my pathway into consideration and making decisions connected to a longer term plan so fast that can make others around me feel a bit disoriented. Tomoko is more observatory and carefully thoughtful in all of her actions and integration of ideas, treading softly and reaching outward for information and direction as well as considering her own position.

This yin and yang nature of differences is something that we are becoming more acutely aware of to ensure that there is more balance in the house, on the land and with our energies which have at times been conflicting which has led us to identify two factors to do with planning and implementing our dream that are critical to a shared vision and an even smoother journey;

1) Clear, Direct, Regular and Comprehensive Verbal and Written Communication
2) Appreciation and Regognition of Timing in all aspects of our life, property and decisions

This fits with our promise made many years ago (Almost 10) when we first met which was to never hold a thought that needs to be shared with each other for more than 5 minutes brewing in ones head before stating it openly and honestly to each other and dealing with the situations of life that come up. This has served us very well so far, ensuring that virtually no time is wasted on non-productive emotions or scenarios.

Now things are a little different because of the sheer magnitude of the vision we have for Synchronicity Farm which has meant that there are far more variables and challenges at play and things to consider than we had first envisaged that have such a strong effect on the success of this life..... in no particular order;
  • Time (usage, prioritisation, flexibility, awareness, balance)
  • Weather (working with it and maximising its value)
  • Water (sources, storage, quality, usage)
  • Energy (sources, power audit, efficiencies, self sufficiency)
  • Temperature (daily fluctuations, effect on work , mood, comfort)
  • Community connection (for happiness, support, help, safety)
  • Soil improvement, making compost (a vital activity)
  • Planning multi-purpose trips into town (to ensure productivity)
  • Sourcing quality organic food (before our gardens supply us)
  • Cost of infrastructure (myriad research & experiential learning)
  • Planting, seed saving, companion planting (becoming experts)
  • Development of friendship network (for like-minded people)
  • The physical work (more than any gym workout)
  • Enhancement of personal time (enjoyment of this is key)
  • Self education and development (range of topics to study)
Thats just a few of the things that come to mind which are, in some cases in addition to the standard life stuff that we had to think about in the city so it does mean that sometimes we feel a bit overwhelmed while still enjoying the journey.

We are truly luck to have each other however and I can say that Tomoko is truly my best friend in life and we are blessed with Jasper who is our mini best mate.
